WITS JUSTICE PROJECT
The Wits Justice Project (WJP) is a project of the
Journalism Department of the University of the
Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (Wits).
Started in
2008, the WJP aims to combine journalism, advocacy,
law and education to make the criminal justice
system in South Africa work better for all. In its
work, WJP brings together investigative reporting
and advocacy. This innovative and exploratory work
is at the cutting edge of activist, public-service
journalism and the WJP is enabled to conduct its
investigations and advocacy activities with the
assistance of the Claude Leon Foundation.
WJP
journalists are encouraged to tackle human rights
issues and make use not just of publication, but of
the courts and partnerships with activists, NGOs,
human rights and legal organizations, working
together towards an improved criminal justice system
for all. |
